Sculpture by the Sea 2008

This sculpture is called "Humpback Gunship." It was made by Benjamin Gilbert. It was made of stainless steel. The colour is silver, it looks like a whale but it also looks like a helicopter or an army gunship.

It makes me feel that the artist is very clever and magnificent. In this sculpture we can see different meanings by its outlook. If we treat it as a whale, it means peace, people will enjoy staying and being close to it. But on the other hand, it also looks like a gunship or an army helicopter. It stands for war, if people use it in the wrong way. It reminds me that peace and war are just the opposite, but the limit is very narrow, it depends on how we use it.

This sculpture is figurative and attracts many children to get inside and play with it. So I think the artist is very intelligent and is a good psychologist, because he gets deep inside the surface and makes us think of different meanings to his piece.
